Function of Beauty's Customizable Shampoo

I tried custom shampoo and this is what happened...

A little background:
I have very fine hair but I have a lot of it, so typically my hair is oily by the next day when I wake up. Which has always been super annoying because I would HAVE to shower! It was so obvious I hadn't showered yet (gross either way because you should always shower!!) but spending the night at a girlfriends house and then going to brunch the next morning was a no go for me. With this issue I have always been super self conscious of my hair falling flat or getting oily easily so looking for a solution has been my #1 hair-ority!

My daily hair routine before buying the custom shampoo typically consisted of washing my hair with shampoo and conditioner every-damn-day. I used conditioner a lot because I have done a lot of damage through dying my hair and then using a flat iron.  After towel drying my hair I then would use a leave in treatment and use a volumizing moose and blow dry my hair and style it and put in hair oil to finish.

Finding out about Function of Beauty, I was on Instagram and it came up in the sponsored part of my feed and so curiosity got the best of me and I clicked it and was led to their site.

About Function of Beauty and what made order it, I really liked that their motto was everyone's hair is different and "the shampoo and conditioner you use should be as unique as your hair". Their shampoo and conditioners are also sulfate free, cruelty free, paraben free, and contain no toxins. I also thought it was cool the thought of chemists and engineers reading my hair profile and putting something together just for me!

Ordering:
Their website is super cute, you start by filling out their hair quiz.
You fill out your hair profile which consists of 1. your hair type 2. how course is your hair and then 3. your scalp moisture.
You then can select up to 5 hair goals, my hair goals were oil control, anti-frizz, thermal protection, fix split ends, and volumize.
The fun part is picking out the colors for the shampoo and conditioner, how you want it to smell and what you want your shampoo to be called!
I then ordered the small 8oz containers which cost $36 for both shampoo and conditioner, which is typically what I pay for, for just shampoo.

When I got my box:
It took about 2 weeks to get to me and the shampoo and conditioner came in a fairly large and very blue box! The presentation was super cute! Inside are of course your custom shampoo and conditioner and a little note about how you customized it and your goals and the ingredients in it. It also included directions, which I thought was funny because this is something I do everyday. It basically told me how to use it and how often, which is specific to your hair profile. When I took out the bottles underneath were two pumps so I could easily use them!

Using Function of Beauty:
I got my shampoo and conditioner at the beginning of March 2017 so I have been using it for about a month now and still have not finished the bottles! My hair however is shoulder length and a little goes a long way with this shampoo. I used it as directed which was to do one pump of shampoo, rinse and repeat and then follow with a dime size amount of conditioner.

When taking care of your hair, you have to think of it like taking care of your skin. It doesn't happen over night and it takes about a month to notice a difference.

After about a month of using the shampoo and conditioner I can say I noticed my hair was definitely a lot less oily when I would wake up. However I did not notice a complete difference in frizz or volume. My hair did feel nice and soft after using it and it feels healthy. The only thing I also didn't like about using their product was that it told me to use it everyday, which is almost impossible. You should rotate your shampoo's so you hair doesn't become immune to it or have any build up.

I'm not completely sure I would recommend this as I did not notice any major results, but its worth a shot if you are experimenting with your hair products! If I were to order this again I would probably order two different ones and separate my hair goals between the two (just an idea).

xoxo
